Support Request: Files not downloading and displaying

Description

Despite allowing file downloads in the configuration file I am unable to actually get files to download and display. Currently running Windows 8.1 and attempting to display PDF files. Have tried multiple skins and multiple configurations. Files download and display within IE outside of sitekiosk logged in as the same user account. I have tried various things that have been posted to the support area but none seem to have fixed the issues.

You will need to leave the File Manager activated in order for downloads to be allowed. The File Manager is deactivated in the attached configuration file. What error message do you see when you try to open a PDF?

When using the Start Screen start page you also need to use the Metro IE Skin to be able to download files. You already have that browser skin selected in your configuration file so no changes are necessary there.
Other skins currently do not support download in combination with the Start Screen start page.

I have had the file manager activated previously but it still did not work. The error that displays when the file manager is activated is "An error has occurred. Error code: -2146697209"

We have almost confirmed that the issue is with our customers website as other sites allow you to download and display PDFs and other files. If you can confirm that the configuration file is set up correctly (with the turning on of the file manager) then we can go back to our customer and have them update their website.

You could try to use the IE download dialog instead of the SiteKiosk download manager.

1. Right-click your configuration file and open with Notepad.
2. Press Ctrl+F and search for the following line:

<msdownloaddlg-urls />

3. Replace the line you found in step 2 with the following:

<msdownloaddlg-urls>

</msdownloaddlg-urls>

Ward, you are amazing! That fixed the issue up right away, the files will now download and open (after a slight tweak to the registry to bypass the open/save dialog and just open each time). Our customer is very happy with the result as it means that they wont have to rewrite their website (just yet anyway). This issue can now be closed.
